July Rooftop Review

REVIEW FOM THE ROOFTOP – JULY

JULY has given some of the hottest weather we have experienced this side of the tracks and understandably, we imagined those soaring temperatures to be directly related to our positively volcanic release schedule. Shame it’s global warming and yet another alarming indicator of the human impact on Mother Earth.

Let’s waste no time and jump into the activity...starting with....

B A R R Y  L O C K E has been on fire, starting with the long awaited release of ‘One Will Make The Jump’ which was featured on Union Jack Radio & BBC Radio Leicester as well as being featured on 3 Spotify Playlists.  Celebrating the release, Barry spent time in Portugal where he did his poolside interviews, Gin in hand and living the dream.  Barry also made and produced his own lyric video that is zooming through YouTube and Facebook with over 12K views/likes.  B A R R Y also spent some time with the good folk over at Alpha Sessions Radio Brockley, which involved a deep but candid interview regarding his involvement with ROOFTOP, Life and his processes. The interview also included a live acoustic session. Ever the intrepid entertainer, B A R R Y also supported C E R I A N on her headline show at The Harrison, supported J E S S  R E I D with Backing Vocals during her show at St John’s Church with Go Out Of Tune, featured Artist on a line up at LUNA, supporting A M Y  M A Y on the London leg of her world tour, providing BV’s for E L I S H A  B L U E in session and finally, a chilled Acoustic set yesterday at M Bar & Grill, Twickenham.

Did you catch R I C K Y  J O H N's new  release of his cover of Try A Little Tenderness, the song that secured his place in the 6 chair challenge during his season of X Factor and with steady growth spanning over 3 million hits, it was certainly the right time for R I C K Y to step into the hot July sun and remind everyone what makes him such an excellent artist. R I C K Y also enjoyed a feature on The Banter Boat which is exactly what you imagine it to be. Music & Comedy on a boat is perfectly buoyant.

Changing gears and back to classics, L I N D A  L I N released her rendition of Rachmaninoff: Sonata for Cello & Piano, Op.19 which also featured Ian Brown. Classical music is an important part of our entrenched history and L I N D A speaks the language beautifully.

E L I S H A  B L U E has been experimenting with a softer more acoustic feel for his last two releases and the songwriter is shining throw in a spectrum of shades of Blue. ‘Place of You’ is a sensitive, tussled but rousing example of what E L I S H A brings to the Rooftop and sounds like an absolute classic. We are also following a top secret project which involves E L I S H A as a chief contributor and we’re so excited for him. More on that as it develops.

The contrasting release from J A Y G U N, ‘This Is Not A Game’ featuring Touché is a surprisingly affirming tribute to internal injustice and plays out like an anthem of personal strength.

Our last release update came from G E N E R A L  P L A G O, ‘Bad Mind’ which is dripping in summer and was absolutely the right thing to get us in the mood for scalding hot sunshine and surprise, albeit welcome, rain showers.

B R E E Z Y  L E E has been working away on the down low on some exciting new projects that we can’t wait to tell you about and M E L I N D A  O R T N E R appeared at Friend Sanctuary music festival.  She was also performing with Ocean All over at Kelburn Garden Party.

It's been a fun filled July with travel, adventure, new introductions to new teams at BoomPlay and AWAL as well as visiting new venues like the Blue Door in Nairobi!  It's DOPE!

Well that’s been our JULY, she’s been hot, she’s been release heavy but my my my has she been fun. Let’s see what August has in store for us.
