OUT AND ABOUT

September Rooftop Review

My my my, doesn’t it feel like only yesterday it was summer, bone dry and hot hot hot and now, here we are amidst gloomy wet days and intermittent pale sunshine that threatens winters approach. Here come the chilly winds and crisp mornings you’ve perhaps forgotten how to enjoy given the spoils of tropical London these past few months but let’s be real, autumn is fabulous too. Time to add an extra layer, hit up the local pubs for that quintessential comfort and of course, that clarity of mind that comes when a season is on the turn. This has very much been the flavour of our September as we move through and review our efforts, harvesting the fruits of those labours and gathering our seeds for a fresh batch of planting. That’s right, we’re putting together our next release schedule within which you can expect more fantastic music from our Artists. We really can’t wait to tell you what’s coming but before we do, lets take a look back over S E P T E M B E R in our monthly R E V I E W from the R O O F T O P.

September started off K W A M E  R I G I I who served Joy and Love amidst a very rainy (and very muddy) day to the town of Limuru in central K E N Y A where our Africa team enjoyed a chilled Sunday with friends and music lovers alike. Kwame was supported by our favourite A Y R O S H as well as his kids! Talk about a talented family. The Africa team have a lot going on besides music working with the communities and infrastructure not to mention driving new social impact through music, culture and fashion. We’ll share more of that with you soon.

Meanwhile, London side we simply had to do a SHOUT – OUT for M E L I N D A  O R T N E R for her collaboration with Ivor Novello award winner R O B  D A V I S on ‘2 People 1 Wish’ which was picked up by D J  M Y L O and released on SOUNDZ GOOD RECORDS. We absolutely loved the track and we think you will too so don’t forget to check that out. On Friday 6th our own B A R R Y  L O C K E released his latest single ‘Whole Lotta Mean’ along with a brand-new homemade music video. Such an important track to get out and with such a positive message behind its darker connotations we couldn’t help but dance along. It’s an ear worm for sure, make sure you check it out if you haven’t already. That very same evening, B A R R Y was asked to perform a last-minute acoustic set at ‘St Christophers Inne’ which served as an inadvertent single launch and the place was absolutely jumping. B A R R Y had everyone dancing and singing along, what is it about the Irish? B A R R Y ‘ s roster of gigs for the month also included a featured slot at     N O T E W O R T H Y open mic at Paperdress, another gig at the iconic G R O U C H O club, a new showcase called F R I D A Y  N I G H T  S E S S I O N S and finally, the ever coveted S O F A R sounds. He’s a hustler!

We also caught up with R I C K Y  J O H N who was featured S O U L T O W N festival.  R I C K Y has been taking time to develop his sound and is working on new material which we can’t wait to hear. He’ll also be playing a show at the O2 arena but more on that when the time is just right. E L I S H A  B L U E has also been cooking up a storm in the kitchen and we released a little taste of ‘Muddy Waters’, which we described as ‘…the spiritual predecessor of Hendrix’ Lady Land album married with the piercing overtones of Page circa Led Zeppelin 3’ in his abstract homage of Willy Dixen. E L I S H A has some face melting guitar work coming your way so look out for our news on that as it unfolds.

A special celebration for our Rasta Man General Plago who celebrated another wonderful year - Happy Birthday.

Well September, thank you for your time and for everything you have given us but we must close your chapter and turn the page to O C T O B E R. Let see what happens this month as we take our front row seats on the R O O F T O P with a V I E W.
