OUT AND ABOUT

November Rooftop Review

Christmas is looming, along with all the excitement of the festive season. We're officially in the spirit of things as December asks us to look back over the year seeing as it's drawing to a close and so, here passes N O V E M B E R which for the most part has been wet, cold, wet, cold. We could continue that description for quite a while but we're sure our London based friends will get the jist, right guys? We've made some fabulous new discoveries in London and in Africa Such as G J O H  G E O R G E of Nairobi, Kenya. An amazing new Artist with modern trap/grime influences who is on his way up. Our other latest discover was Northern Irish based Duo T H E  D A R K L I N G  A I R who are all set to steal your heart and become your new favourite folk artists just in time for Christmas. Check out their 1st single ' Octogenarian Mermaid' from their newly released album "A N C E S T O R " which comes with a heart warming music video set in the ocean. It is beautiful!

Let's take a look at what went down in L O N D O N. Right off the bat our R O O F T O P  S P Y announced B A R R Y  L O C K E 's involvement in a project with up and coming Producer W I L L W A L L A C E via E V O L E D artists which would see  B A R R Y sing some of the songs he's been co - writing. This live showcase would feature B A R R Y along with the other writers in this L I V E Electronic set with K O S H E E N headlining. There where two dates across Liverpool and London but unfortunately, due to technical circumstances, both dates had to be pulled but we can assure you that soon we will be able to share the music B A R R Y was working on and believe us, you're in for a suprise! B A R R Y is winding down after a successful year of growing his audience and taking part in various writing projects which will soon come to fruition.   Next we caught wind that our favourite resident soul singer R I C K Y  J O H N had been spending his time post  NEW YORK writing new material and getting ready for a gorgeous gig this coming December 6th in God's own Junkyard.

Meanwhile, back in A F R I C A, A Y R O S H threw a fabulous FOLK FUSION bash including some of our favourite artists, T H A M O V E M E N T and K W A M E R I G I I Then it was time for T U M A I N I festival, the dream of one man, T R E S O R (Menes La Plume) plays out in Malawi's refugee camp D Z E L A K A. Thousands gather in the valley to share an outpouring of art, culture & music over a weekend of mutual love with these incredibly strong, displaced, yet always friendly & optimistic people. Our man on the ground was none other than H U G O, a talented young producer who performed to the masses and will soon be collaborating with B A R R Y. We also had the opportunity to get down to Grammy Award winner R O C K Y  D A W U N I 's public Q & A, where he shared his knowledge of the music industry and spoke of his experiences. Very enlightening stuff. We also caught up with A N T O LIVE 3.0 in his birthday celebration gig. Alongside his work within the community, Mr Rooftop himself has begun a mentoring program at D A G O Z. 5 local Artists will have coaching in Vocals, Performance, Songwriting techniques and Stage production.

All in a day's work....

We've had two  R O O F T O P  R E L E A S E 's of our own to share:

  • Firstly with J A Y G U N who always keeps us guessing with his brand new 'Curious'. Staying close to the classic hip hop feel with a smooth R&B sheen, we reackon it's future nostalgia magic!

  • Next on the release roster was our legendary Blues Man  E L I S H A  B L U E, serving emotive raw energy with 'No Matter How'. Excellent work Mr Blue!
